I wanted to focus this issue to how to search for a handicapped accessible van. Which is why you signed up for this news letter in the first place I would guess. I want you to understand that it isn't easy to find a vehicle that will work for you and you have to take full part in the search. I got the idea of this site because I was getting a new van and I knew that my old van still could benefit another individual like me with a real need. So, I placed an ad on the Internet. I was living in Dallas, Texas at the time mind you. And I got a few responses and then had a woman e-mail me from where MONTANA. I hand sent her pictures over via e-mail with my digital camera. She asked me about the condition of the van and I told her the history of the van. She was very interested. The she said that she would take it. Yes, she bought the van unseen in person. How did I get it to her. Well she checked some shipping costs getting it to Montana that wasn't feasible for her budget. Fortunately for her she had a wonderful friend ride the bus to Dallas pickup the van and drive it back to Montana.

What is the moral of the story? Well, I know that a used van or car might not be easily accessible within your area. That is why I tried helping by providing different areas around the country for people to hopefully place an ad that is within your area. It doesn't always work out that way. Be willing to take a road trip to physically see a van or car or go see it your self or have a friend or family member go check it out for you. Read this message that I got on how a van was recently sold on the site.
"WOW,what a site. The van was sold last Saturday to a gentleman from Baltimore. He came up to NJ, was the first to actually look at it and drove it away. We were very pleased.
Thanks,
Bill & Donna" The ad was placed 11/26/02 sold 1/11/03

In addition most individuals who have been fortunate enough to get a converted van new to drive for a disabled individual expect to get a what they may have put into the conversion. But I know that we can't afford to pay the conversion on a used van that is after all why we didn't buy a new van in the first place. When selling my van I used the blue book value on the van and then added what I though I could get for the conversion as well. In reality I was happy to take the blue book value if I could get anything at all for it.
I get a lot of people that e-mail for this newsletter asking for a donated van or raffle or some other assistance. I personally can't help find everyone a van or car. I created this site to help bring people together in their search. If you have an idea on how I might better help you with this site based on my limited time and resources let me know @ Suggestion Box.
It is discouraging trying to find something that will work for you. Keep checking the site and hopefully someone has posted a new van or car that will work for you. If you can get some assistance from a local State Rehab agency or from a local or national charity to help you purchase a used van that you found on this site. I am going to put together flyers to send out to State Rehabilitation offices around the country if I can get some funding for postage. To make them aware of available vans for sale to help people like you.
Some new items that I have added is for our neighbors up in Canada up North to help include your assistance there as well. I will break it down into the providence's when I get a chance for easier searches as well.
Sincerely,
Curtiss
